1920 Essex

CALIFORNIA, USA

Car Story

The Essex company organized several endurance trials like the endurance race completed by stock Essex in December 1919. The ride run 3,037 miles in 50 hours. That was why another endurance contest was organized. In the contest an Essex carried U.S. mail between New York and San Francisco. You have to know that was the first time an automobile delivered U.S. Mail from coast to coast. The contest began on 6 August 1920.

There were two identical Essex rides running the same trace but in reverse directions. The first Essex ran from New York to San Francisco, and the second from San Francisco to New York. The first ride set a record of four days, 19 hours and 17 minutes, the second came in four days, 21 hours and 56 minutes.
